Abstract
1,211,960. Temporarily sealing pipe-lines. B. SCHEIDLER. 31 Oct., 1967 [31 Oct., 1966; 9 June, 1967], No. 43681/69. Divided out of 1,199,188. Heading F2P. [Also in Division F4] A freezing jacket, for use with refrigerating apparatus for temporarily closing a pipe, comprises an annular sleeve 1<SP>1</SP> which is made of rubber-like material, has a longitudinal slit which extends radially through the sleeve, and is adapted to surround a portion of the pipe, at least two tube members 51, 61 which extend radially through the sleeve and which open into a recess 7 in its internal surface, and a clamp 3 for closing the sleeve on the pipe. The clamp has at least two connections 5, 6 for passing a coolant through the tube members 51, 61 and the recess 7 the sleeve being clamped on to the pipe by tightening the clamp 3 so that the connections 5, 6 sealingly engage the tube members 51, 61 and the edge limiting the recess 7 is in sealing contact with the pipe. As shown, the clamp consists of two semi-cylindrical parts which are pivoted together at 4 and which can be drawn together by a bolt. In a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the bearing surfaces (601, 611) are conical and the walls which limit the edge of the recess 7 are grooved to accommodate a sealing compound (14).
