Abstract

551,006. Pipe joints. WRIGHT, H. CLAYTON-. Oct. 4, 1941, No. 12851. Addition to 528,965. [Class 99 (i)] In a coupling having a screwed member 8 engaging a nut 9 so as to compress a sealing- ring 7 on to a collar 1 provided on the pipe 5, as described in the parent Specification, the collar is formed with an inclined flange 3 which becomes pressed inwards so as to bite into the pipe. The flange 3 may be made integral with the collar 1 by forming a V-groove on the inside of the latter; or it may be a separate member bearing at its outer edge in a recess in the collar. The sealing-ring may be made in two parts 6, 7. In a modification, Fig. 4, the collar comprises a sleeve 16 the edges of which are pressed into the pipe, and may have an annular rib 17 for engaging a groove in the sealing-ring 18. In another form the collar comprises a sleeve with an internal rib which is pressed into the pipe.
