Abstract

757,497. Pipe joints. GRATZMULLER, J. L. June 15, 1953 [June 25, 1952], No. 16429/53. Class 99(1). In a joint in which a pipe 2 is secured to a fitting 11 by compression around the pipe of a sealing and securing ring 4 under the action of a coupling member such as a cap nut 1, the ring has internal cutting edges 10, formed by one or more annular grooves, and has a tapered end 8 fitting into the tapered bore of a sleeve 3 which has a terminal, annular, cutting ridge 6 adapted to bite into the end face of the fitting 11. A flange 9 of the ring engages the end of the sleeve to limit the deformation of the ring. Alternatively the ring has no flange and deformation is limited by engagement of the cap nut with the sleeve. The sleeve is thicker and stronger than the ring.
