578,507. Pipe joints. HORROCKS, H. May 23, 1945, No. 12876. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe joint packing device has a deformable sleeve 4 surrounded by an inexpansible ring 5 having a ridge 5a engaging in the slot 4b which assists the limited buckling of the sleeve when it is compressed between a socket 1 and a nut 3, having inclined faces 1b and 3a respectively, in such a way as to grip or partly penetrate a pipe 2 at 4c and form a seal. A small clearance 7 must remain after the ring 5 is shrunk on the sleeve 4 and the interengaging ridge 5a and groove 4b enable the two parts to be inserted in the joint as a unit.
