Abstract
576,862. Pipe joints. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V. (Parker Appliance Co.). May 16, 1944, No. 9325. [Class 99 (i)] In a pipe joint of the kind in which a sealing sleeve 9 is adapted to be contracted on to the pipe by a coupling nut 17 screwing on to the socket 8, the sleeve has an intermediate flange 10 adapted to be engaged by the coupling nut or by a separate clamping ring 14 to limit the degree of contraction of the outer end of the sleeve. Slots 9a extend from the outer end of the sleeve to a point beyond the flange 10. The inner end of the sleeve,has a tapered surface 13 engaging a corresponding surface 5 in the mouth of the socket and may be forced into the pipe until the flange 10 engages the end of the socket. At the same time the end of the pipe will be deformed against a tapered surface 6 in the base of the socket. The ring 14 and sleeve have correspondingly tapered engaging surfaces.
