Abstract

688,744. Pipe joints. KREIDEL, H., and KREIDEL, jun., H. June 6, 1951 [June 28, 1950], No. 13430/51. Class 99 (i). In a joint of the kind in which a sealing ring 5 is forced into a conical recess 3 of a socket by a coupling nut 6, and has a cutting edge 13 which raises a ridge of metal in front of it as it is contracted on to the pipe, the sealing ring has three portions the inner surfaces 7, 9, 11 of which are at an angle to one another, the intermediate portion having converging inner and outer surfaces 9, 10. The cutting end 15 of the ring may be plane or concave as shown. The outer end of the ring has a conical or convex surface engaging a conical surface 14 of the nut, the apical angle of which is greater than 90 degrees.
