[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 27, 1935.] [Class 99 (i)] In a pipe joint of the kind in which a metallic packing ring c is forced by a nut d against the conical bore of a socket f so as to deform it to grip the pipe, the ring has a cutting edge c<1> which is harder than the material of the pipe and which digs into the pipe raising a ridge of metal c<2> without deforming the inner surface of the pipe. The end face c<3> of the ring may be at right angles to its axis or it may have an annular V-groove or it may be chamfered externally. Specification 403,870 is referred to.
