Packing, metallic. -A pipe 11 is jointed to a coupling- member 7 by means of packing 10 in the form of a coil or helix of soft metal such as lead, which is positioned within and is compressed by a union nut 8. The packing co-operates with a tapered recess 7<b> in the coupling- member while a similar recess 8<b> may be provided in the union nut. In a modification, Fig. 2, the recess 7<b> is engaged by a split ring 12 against which the packing 10 bears.
