[Class 99 (i)] A sealing ring having an end 14 which is rounded or of reduced thickness is forced against a conical shoulder 11 in a socket by a gland 3<a> screwing into the socket, the shape of the ring and shoulder being such that the front end only of the ring is contracted on to the pipe 1<a>. The socket may be formed in the union 2 or in an adaptor 8.
