Abstract

600,086. Tube couplings. FREEMAN, W. S. July 2, 1945, No. 16781. [Class 99 (i)] A plug coupling for tubes, containers, or like tubular members, is of the type described in Specification 566,770, comprises at least two plugs extending from an intermediate head portion, each plug having external deformable sealing means and at least one passage extending through and connecting the plugs, and is characterised in that the bead is. recessed on one or both of its sides to receive the tubular member or members to be coupled. The sealing means are in the form of annular rib-like serrations of saw-tooth crosssection arranged to facilitate the insertion of a plug into a tube and to resist its withdrawal. Fig. 1 shows a double plug 1 with serrations 4 and a head 2 recessed at 8 to receive a tube 9. Each plug may have an annular skirt extending from the head and adapted to embrace and make a seal with the tube. Fig. 4 shows a coupling with a double skirt 10, internal serrations 11 being provided for sealing. The double plug shown in Fig. 6 has only one skirt which is flexible enough to be turned over on to a tube coupled to the other end. An integral flexible tube may project from a plug to provide a continuation of the bore. The bore may have a rigid tube fitted into or through it, internal serrations being provided to grip this tube. More than one passage may be provided through a plug. Elbows and tees may be formed, the latter utilising three integral plugs. Valve means may be incorporated in the coupling.
