Abstract
672,453. Pipe couplings. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. May 18, 1950 [Sept. 15, 1949], No. 12466/50. Class 99 (i) The inclined exterior surface 25 of a deformable sleeve 23 located between a body 10 and a nut 20, coacts with the inclined wall 15 of a recess 14 in the body, a circumferential rib 26 projecting from an intermediate portion of the surface of the sleeve initially contacting the wall to displace the sleeve inwardly into circumferential gripping engagement with and to form a neck in the pipe 11. A frangible web may connect the nut and sleeve. At the inner end of the recess there may be a conical portion 18 with which the pipe end is forced to engage, and the surface 25 may be inclined at a smaller angle to the coupling axis than the wall 15. The sleeve may be integral with the body and the recess formed in the nut. In modifications, (a) the bore 13 is equal to that of the pipe and (b) the pipe passes through the body.
