666,183. Hose couplings. MILLAR, J. H. June 9, 1950 [June 10, 1949], No. 15520/49. Class 99 (i) The shank 18 of a spigot 10 is connected by threads 20 to a coupling body 12 and has in the region of the threads a frusto-conical bore portion which is expanded by a suitable tool to provide full-bore flow and to distort the threads to a tapered form so that the spigot and body are interlocked, the hose 15 being gripped between the expanded shank 17 and a ferrule 11. The body may abut an inward ferrule flange 23 which engages in a spigot groove 19 and the shank 18 may be internally or externally threaded or provided with a rotatable nut or annular teeth for connection to a complementary coupling part or hose end. A spigot having tapered threads 20 may be provided when the body and ferrule are salvaged from a damaged coupling for re-use.
