Abstract

557,580. Hose pipe couplings. CARLING, E. C. April 16, 1942, No. 5072. [Class 99 (i)] A rubber hose is gripped between an insert 2 and an outer sleeve 1 which is contracted progressively by commencing at the end remote from the flange 7 or by commencing midway along its length. A deformable metal washer 5 which bears on a shoulder on the insert completes the joint. The washer may be cupshaped before its deformation. Alternatively, the periphery of the washer may engage a recess in the sleeve, the flange on the sleeve being dispensed with, or the washer may be replaced by a deformable flange on the insert.
