Abstract

731,709. Pipe couplings. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. Nov. 25, 1952 [Nov. 27, 1951], No. 29866/52. Class 99 (1). A hose end fitting comprises a nipple 1 having an elongated portion 2 formed with a flange 4 in which is a groove for a sealing ring 5, the external diameter of the flange exceeding the hose bore diameter whereby on inserting the nipple the hose bore is expanded and has sealing engagement with the ring 5 followed by contraction of that part of the hose bore between the flange and the end of the hose. A cap 9 for protecting the end of the hose has an opening comprising a major eccentric portion 10 and a minor concentric portion 11. With the portion 10 concentric to the nipple the cap is slid over the nipple until it engages a flange 3 whereupon the cap is moved downwardly to engage between the flange and the end of a screw thread on the nipple. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the cap is made of rubber.
