Abstract

1,195,723. Pipe couplings. GIRLING Ltd. 19 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14654/67. Heading F2G. An annular, elastomeric sealing ring 3 encircling a pipe-end 1 is received in a recess in a socket 2, and a deformable washer 6, initially of frusto-conical form, inserted into the socket with the larger diameter thereof nearer the sealing ring is, on assembly of a releasable clamping means 7, deformed to retain the washer such that the washer engages against a shoulder 4 surrounding the recess and compresses the ring 3 into sealing engagement with the pipe; the inner periphery of the washer bites into the pipe.
