Abstract
1297250 Pipe connectors PLASSON MAAGAN MICHAEL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 55879/70 Heading F2G A pipe connector comprises a body 2, a nut 8 and a split ring 6. The body 2 has a bore 10, an annular shoulder 14 and screw threads 15. The nut 8 has screw threads 25, which engage the threads 15 and a tapered bore 24 which fits around the tapered exterior of the split ring 6. The bore 24 is sized such that its wider end fits easily about the narrower end of the split ring 6. Thus when the ring 6 is located on a pipe 4 and the nut 8 brought up so that the bore 24 begins to overlie the ring 6 and the threads 15, 25 engage split 16 in the ring 6 is not closed. On further tightening of the screw threads 15, 25 the ring 6 is compressed and the split 16 closed and the ring bites into the pipe 4. When fully tightened the end of the pipe 4 abuts the annular shoulder 14 and the nut 8 compresses the ring 6 which abuts the outer end of the body 2. As shown the body 2 may be able to connect two pipes 4 and sealing rings 12 may be located in both of its bores 10. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a bush (30) is located within the pipe 4 and this bush has an external diameter equal to the internal diameter of the pipe 4. The bush (30) may have a lip (32) which is outwardly directed so that the end of the pipe 4 and the annular shoulder 14 do not abut when the connector is tightly assembled.
