Abstract

723,209. Pipe couplings. GOULD, J. P. E. April 6, 1951. No. 8075/51. Class 99 (1). A pressure gauge or other device 39 is connected to a fluid-container, such as the head 11 of an oil-well casing, by an adaptor comprising a tubular member 15 adapted for connection, as by a screw thread 19, to the head 11 and provided with an internal seat 24, and a nipple 25 which has a valve 28 adapted to engage the seat 24 and is internally threaded to receive the gauge 39. The valve has a tapered end 27 and an annular recess 29 communicating with the interior of the nipple by ports 38. Sealing rings 17, 18 are provided on the tapered part 27 and the stem of the nipple respectively. The nipple is turned to open and close the valve by a hexagonal portion 26. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the member 15 is angular.
