Abstract

792,205. Pipe couplings. DAWSON, D. Aug. 16, 1956 [Sept. 5, 1955], No. 25465/55. Class 99(1). In a coupling comprising an adaptor 26 for connection to a pipe or the outlet of a tap, and a coupler 11 for connection to a hose &c. pipe 12, the adaptor and coupler being coupled by radially-movable locking members operated by a slidable sleeve 18, a spring 22 situated between shoulders 15, 21 on the coupler and sleeve respectively and concealed in the sleeve urges the sleeve into locking position against a circlip 23. External ribs 13 permit easy entry of the coupler into the hose 12, and the adaptor has an internal screw thread 32. As shown, the locking members consist of balls 25 mounted in holes 24 tapering inwardly, a nipple 29 screwed into the adaptor 26 has a conical end 30 which screws into a tap and makes its own thread, a sealing washer 33 engages the tap and a cupleather washer 27 forms a seal between the adaptor and the coupler.
