Abstract

897,257. Pipe couplings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 31, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10924/60. Class 99(1). A member 1 includes a spring-biased, flap valve 8 retained in normally closed position by fluid under pressure and a socket 2 adapted to receive and form a seal with a tubular spigot 16 of a member 12 during engagement of the two members, the valve being opened by the spigot after the seal has been established between the socket and spigot, and the bore of the member 12 being unrestricted during and after coupling of the members together. As shown, the plug 5 screwed into the socket 2 carries a sealing ring 14 and a stud 6 upon which is pivoted a spring-loaded lever 7 carrying the valve 8, the latter engaging against a sealing ring 9. The spigot 16 mounts a sleeve 17 of nylon adapted to seal against the ring 14 and has a conical portion 11 for reception in the conical part 10 of the plug 5.
