Abstract

805,140. Pipe couplings. JOHNSON, M. E. April 3, 1957 [April 3, 1956], No. 10128/56. Class 99(1). A pipe coupling comprises a spigot member 14, Fig. 1, containing a valve 15 with a stem 20 provided with guiding wings 17, 22, and a socket member 24, Fig. 2, in which is provided a boss 20 which contacts the end of the stem 20 to open valve 15 during coupling, the sides of the boss having apertures 29 therein to permit flow of fluid round the boss. The coupling is sealed by a sealing ring 25 and the parts are locked in coupled position by balls 31 in the member 24 which engage a groove in the member 14, the balls being released for uncoupling by a recess 34 in a spring-loaded slidable sleeve 32.
