Abstract

678,556. Pipe couplings. THOMAS, P. E. Jan. 31, 1950 [Jan. 31, 1949], No. 2681/49. Class 99 (i) In a coupling having coupling-actuated valves in each coupling element, one of which is a spring-urged plunger 19 closing the opening in the element B and adapted to be opened by a hollow ported stem 1 in the element A, a sealing ring 25 in a groove in element B engages the plunger 19 in the uncoupled position and the stem 1 in the coupled position. Sealing rings 13, 14 in grooves in a spring-urged sleeve valve 6 are located in the uncoupled position on either side of the ports 5 in the stem 1. The stem has a conical head 2 engaging a complementary recess in the valve 19. A sealing ring 27 may be provided in the sleeve valve 6 to engage the end face 18 of element B. The valve 6 is held rigidly in the coupled position between the end face 18 and a shoulder 30.
