Abstract

647,299. Pipe couplings. M. B. G. CORPORATION. May 7, 1948, No. 12622. Convention date, June 17, 1947. [Class 99(i)] A sleeve 50 carries a coupling member 1 and receives and holds in axial alignment therewith a coupling member 15, the members being held against separation in the coupled position shown by means such as studs 54 of member 15 engaged in curved slots 53 of the sleeve, and against relative rotation by locking means, sucn as pins 55 of member 1 entered into sockets 56 of member 15, which are releasable only when a predetermined axial separating force is applied to the members. The sleeve may have a number of pins 51 projecting into axial grooves 52 of member 1 which then has a limited sliding movement in the sleeve, and axial separation of the members may be resiliently opposed by fluid pressure in an annular chamber 57, and a spring 65 disposed in the chamber and holding member 1 in its nomally advanced position. Spring- loaded valves 25, 40 may be disposed entirely within the members which are automatically closed when uncoupled. The chamber communicates with bore 3 of member 1 by ports 60 only when valve 25 is open. In a modification, the chamber is always open to fluid pressure.
