Abstract
576,867. Pipe couplings. MAIN, D. W. May 17, 1944, No. 9424. [Class 99 (i)] In a coupling of the kind in which-spigot and socket members 2, 3 have spring-loaded valve members 7, 19 actuated in the act of coupling, the valve 19 being of annular form and seating on the fixed part 24 which engages the valve 7, the valve 19 is slidable within the bore 16 of the socket and when closed is sealed by a packing ring 27 located in a recess 26 of the socket. The valve seaf 24 is formed on the end of a sleeve 23 secured in the socket and having openings 25 for fluid flow, the valve 19 having a flange 20 and seat projection 21 so as to be guided by the sleeve 23 and bore 16. The nipple 34 of the spigot moves the valve 19 against the action of spring 22 and, engages the packing 27 when the coupling is made by a coupling nut 1.
