Abstract

801,784. Closures for pipes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. Sept. 5, 1956 [Sept. 5, 1955], No. 25444/55. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XVII] A cap, Fig. 1, fitting over a connector, Fig. 2, whereby a hose pipe &c. may be connected to a fuel tank &c. is secured against axial movement e.g., by pins 14 engaging bayonet slots 28, the cap and connector having complementary cylindrical mating surfaces 4, 26, a packing ring 13 carried by one of the parts engages a cylindrical surface on the other part, and a sliding member 6 mounted in the cap is urged by a spring 9 toward an abutment 10 and is pressed back by the connector. The member 6 is disc-shaped and has a spigot 7 which fitting the socket 33 in the connector. To prevent loss, a chain is secured to the cap by a wire ring 21 and to a fixture. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the packing ring is in a groove in the spigot 7. In Fig. 4, the inside of the cap is stepped, and the slidable member is in the form of a tube 42 having a spigot end 43 and a flange 44 engaging a circlip 10, sealing of the tube being effected by a ring 46. The connector comprises a member 49, Fig. 5, secured in position by a screwed sleeve 50 formed with bayonet slots 28, a packing ring 53 co-operating with the spigot to form the primary seal. The tube 42 may be closed by a disc, the seal 46 being dispensed with, and the circlip 10 may be dispensed with, the pins 14 acting as a stop for the tube. Bolted or screwed connectors may be used instead of a bayonet joint.
