Abstract

749,795. Pipe couplings; pipe stoppers. ROLEDA, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1954 [Nov. 20, 1953], No. 32244/53. Class 99(1). A coupling device comprises a male member 1, Fig. 1, having an annular groove or recesses 2 in its outer surface, and a female part comprising an inner sleeve 3 carrying balls or plungers 6 which are held in locking engagement with the groove 2 by an outer sleeve 4 which is movable against. a spring 8 to bring a groove or recess 7 opposite the balls 6 to release the coupling, the inner sleeve 3 having an inwardly directed shoulder accommodating a sealing ring 11 against which the end of the male member 1 rests. In Fig. 1 the device is used to fasten a closure device 9 on the end of an inlet or outlet pipe 1, the closure disc 9 being integral with the inner sleeve 3 and having bolted thereto a flange 16 which forms an abutment for the spring 8 and which is rotatable to either of two positions, in one of which a projection 19 is free to move in a guideway 18 in a flange 15 on the outer sleeve 4 and in the other of which it locks the outer sleeve 4 relative to the inner sleeve 3. In Fig. 2 the device is used to couple a hose member 20 to the pipe 1, the inner sleeve 3 being integral with the member 20 and the spring 8a, loading the locking sleeve 4, abutting against a flange 21 bolted to the member 20. The sleeve 4 and the member 20 are provided with gripping portions 22, 23, which,are pulled together to compress the spring 8a and release the balls 6.
