Abstract

1,070,359. Pipe couplings; valves. GAS COUNCIL. April 21, 1966 [April 22, 1965], No. 17038/65. Headings F2G and F2V. In a plug-and-socket coupling wherein the socket carries an 0-ring 16 for forming a seal with the plug and incorporates a spring-loaded valve 11 moved off the seat 10 by insertion of the plug into the socket, the latter includes an annular ring 17 held within the socket by a circlip 19 or a gland nut and having outwardly directed lugs which engaged in axial slots in the wall of the socket to prevent rotation of the ring and inwardly directed lugs 21 which cooperate with bayonet slots 34 in a collar 29 rotatable on and prevented from axial movement relative to the plug by a circlip 32. The valve may have a recess filled with solder or a metal disc soldered therein so that if the coupling is subjected to a high temperature melting of the solder allows the valve to be closed by the spring 12 although the plug and socket are coupled together.
