Abstract

723,283. Pipe couplings. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL. Oct. 23, 1952. [Oct. 25, 1951] No. 26636/52. Class 99(1). A ball valve 18 in the socket member 7 of a spigot- and-socket coupling is seated, when the coupling is disconnected, on a sealing ring 10 located in a recess formed by an annular shoulder 11 slightly greater in diameter than the ball and by an annular shoulder 9 slightly less in diameter than the ball. The ball is unseated by the spigot 1 which is then sealed by the ring 10. The sealing ring is of circular or oval cross-section, and is of such dimensions as to be axially movable in the recess. The valve may have a loading spring 20. The coupling may be secured by balls 14 in the socket engaging a groove 6 in the spigot under the control of a spring- loaded axially-movable sleeve 15. Alternatively the connection is of the bayonet type.
