Abstract
732,186. Pipe couplings; stoppers. SCANDINAVIAN AGENCIES CORPORATION, Ltd. May 28, 1953 [June 6, 1952], No. 14909/53. Class 99 (1). In a bayonet-type coupling the socket 10 is provided with transverse pin or pins 12 which project into its bore, the spigot 11 having flats 17, Fig. 2 allowing its movement past the pins till they enter an annular groove 18. The spigot engages a sealing ring 14 and compresses a spring 15, which acts to locate the pins in locking recesses 21 with which they register after relative rotation of spigot and socket. In a modification the socket includes a valve 28, Fig. 6 adapted to be seated on an internal flange 29 by a tapered coil spring 24, and adapted to be unseated by the spigot. The sealing ring 14 is carried by a spider 26 on the valve stem 25. The spigot may include a ball valve 30 adapted to be unseated by the stem 25, and loaded by a spring 32 weaker than the spring 24. The socket may be adapted for connection to a support 33, Fig. 4, and one of its pins 12 may project to form pivots for a strap spring 22 serving to press a dust cap 23 against its mouth. The locking pins may be yieldable to provide for automatic disconnection on overload in couplings for, say, vehicle brake pipes. The pins 37, Fig. 7 located in open slots 40 may be the projecting arms of a spring 39, or the short pins 42, Fig 8 may be held in the slots 40 by a spring circlip 44.
