Abstract
590,840. Pipe couplings. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. March 23, 1945, No. 7335. Convention date, April 22, 1944. [Class 99 (i)] A readily disconnectible pipe coupling has a plug member X consisting mainly of the body, B in which is sealed the tubular elastic sealing element S with a conical end 12, a socket member Y containing the tube T which has a conical seating 13 for. the element S and a finger-slotted or crown member C fixed to the tube T :at 55, which prevents by its engagement with pin 14 in the plug member, relative angular movement between the plug and socket which may damage the sealing element S. The sleeve F mounted rotatably on the tube T has a pin 18 engaging a slot 17 in the plug member to form a bayonet type coupling. The valve V connected to the tube E and forced on to the sealing ring R by the spring G is lifted when the coupling is assembled by the engagement of the tube end 25 with the shoulder 26 and this permits the flow of fluid through the holes 27. The element S 'is secured to the casing B by the spacer 40 and the seal R being compressed by the annular Sange 37 of the nipple A. In a modification, the tube E may be formed integral with the tube T and arranged to lift the valve on assembly of the coupling. In a further modification the sealing element may be cylindrical with annular end flanges and have springs disposed within said elements to urge the annular flanges on the sealing faces of the plug and socket members. In a further modification the crown may be mounted on or be integral with the plug member and the bayonet type slots formed in the socket sleeve to engage studs on the plug member.
