Abstract

581,087. Pipe couplings. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and BROCK, W. H. J. June 12, 1944, No. 11243. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a pipe coupling of the kind in which each coupling member carries a valve opened by the act of coupling, and in which one valve member comprises a sleeve 25 slidable on a fixed hollow stem 20 and controlling ports 23, the closed end of the stem engaging the valve member 56, the closed end of the stem and the valve member 56 have annular grooves containing packing rings 29, 58 engaging respectively the sleeve 25 and the annular seating surface 57 in the reduced bore of the coupling member 40. The stem 20 is inserted through the reduced end portion 15 of the coupling member 12 and has a flared end 24 by which it is secured to the member 12 by the coupling means of a tapered pipe nipple 18. The spring-urged sleeve 25 is retained in the coupling member 12 by a stop ring 26 and has a packing ring 34 in its end face which is engaged by an annular rib 62 on the end of the coupling member 40. The spring-urged valve 56 has a tail portion comprising wings 60 which guide it in the member 40 in which it is retained by a nut 52. Specification 573,137, [Group XXIX], is referred to.
