Abstract

557,572. Pipe joints; valves. FOXCROFT, S. G. WILLIAMS-. June 13, 1942, No. 8121. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A pipe coupling comprises two parts b, e having completely flush surfaces when brought together for coupling, and laterally apertured sleeves a<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>1</SP> automatically brought into communication with a passage f in the part e when the parts b, e are connected together by a union nut c. In one form, Fig. 1, the nut c engages external threads on the parts b, e, the end faces of which are provided with interengaging pins and recesses. The sleeve a<SP>1</SP> is integral with the socket a and the part b is slidable on the sleeve a<SP>1</SP> and provided with a rubber or like ring d wide enough to seal the lateral apertures a<SP>3</SP> when in register with them. The sleeve e<SP>1</SP> is slidable in the part e against a spring and the passage f in the socket e is a groove fitted with a rubber or other sealing ring f<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, Fig. 2, the bush b slides on the sleeve a<SP>1</SP> against a spring b<SP>1</SP>; the ported sleeve e<SP>1</SP> is screwed in the socket e and carries a spindle e<SP>3</SP> slidable against a spring e<SP>5</SP> and having a head e<SP>1</SP> which is flush with outer end of the socket e when the parts are uncoupled.
