Abstract

380,450. Pipe joints. NATIONAL SUPPLY CORPORATION, 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. June 13, 1931, No. 17262. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1930. [Class 99 (i).] A pipe joint particularly for hollow drill-rods comprises a union 4 which screws on to the end of the pipe 2, a ferrule 8 contained in the union, and packing 14 compressed in a recess formed by the end face of the pipe and by the union and ferrule, the overlapping faces of ferrule and pipe being parallel to the axis of the pipe. A union 3 having a similar ferrule 18 screws on to the pipe, the screw-joint 5 between the union nuts being provided with packing 13, which may be of the type which is expanded by fluid pressure admitted from the pipe through apertures in the ferrule.
