[Class 99 (i)] An internally tapered guide member 2 which co-operates with a shoulder 17 of the spigot 11 to guide the roll packing 6 into the space 18 is detachably secured to the end of the socket 3 or coupling sleeve and removed after the joint is assembled. The guide comprises two half-rings bolted or hinged together and has a recess 14 in which the socket end is received.
