Abstract

677,557. Pipe couplings. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 28, 1949 [Dec. 28, 1948], No. 33140/49. Class 99 (i) Coupling members 18, 19 are detachably secured together in a fluid-tight manner, a valve 36, Fig. 4, in each coupling member projecting beyond it when seated, so that coupling the parts opens one or both of the valves, each valve being loaded by two springs, of which the spring 44 is stronger than the spring 47, one of the valves remaining closed if the pressures in the two pipes are substantially different. The springs are separated by a slidable spacer 37 limited in movement by a shoulder 43. A sleeve 17 closely fitting the coupling members has a shouldered engagement 21 with member 18 and a bayonetjoint with member 19, the pins 23 being locked in the recesses 26 by a spring-urged tapered pin 29, Fig. 2. A direct pull on the coupling causes the withdrawal of the locking-pin 29 by an anchored cable 16. The coupling is sealed by rings 50, 51. Air trapped between the coupling members is accommodated in the recess 52 behind the rolling packing 51. Specification 677,609 is referred to.
