Abstract

829,531. Pipe couplings. PILLIN Ltd., J. B., and EARLY, K. C. July 4,1958, No. 21584/58. Class 99(1). A quickly disconnectable coupling has a spring-loaded detent means 30 sliding radially in a slot 29 to engage a rib 33 in a recess 28 of a hollow spigot member 26, thus holding the latter in a position in which it has moved valve head 20 away from valve seat 16, release of the detent means being effected by axial movement of a sleeve 38. The free end of a spigot 26 is chamfered at 27 to move the rib- 33 outwards upon insertion of spigot 26 which, when fully inserted, permits rib 33 to spring back into recess 28. The sleeve 38 is moved axially to the left, engaging cham. fers 32 and 47, to release the rib 33, axial movement of the sleeve 38 being limited by a stop screw 45 engaged in a slot 44 of an encircling sleeve 48 to which the sleeve 38 is secured.
