Abstract
891,392. Hose connectors. MARTIN, J. March 13, 1959 [March 14, 1958], No. 8318/58. Class 99(1). In a connector for releasably and fluid-tightly coupling conduits and consisting of male and female parts 1, 7 which form a single unit having a straightthrough bore, the part 7 comprises a tubular housing 8, 9 furnished with a longitudinally split, radially adjustable collet 24 and, mounted thereon, a retaining sleeve 29 movable along the housing into alternative positions in one of which the collet is confined against radial expansion and in the other of which the collet is permitted to expand radially. There are spring means 35 for urging the sleeve into the collet confining position thereof and means, e.g. a pin and bayonet slot connection 33, for releasably holding the sleeve in the expanded condition of the collet. The part 1 comprises a tubular spigot insertable into the collet when the latter is freed for radial expansion and having means for interengaging with co-operating means provided internally of the collet for locking the part 1 of the connector from withdrawal from, and axial movement in, the part 7 when the sleeve 29 is moved to the collet confining position. As shown, the spigot has a V-shaped ridge 6 for location in an internal groove 25 of the collet, the collet being longitudinally slotted to form a number of resilient tongues 23. Internally of the collet is a sealing ring 27 mounted, and preferably bonded, in a groove of the part 7. A valve 11 guided on a pin 12 and urged by a spring 14 on to a seat 10 is automatically opened upon connection of the parts 1, 7. Specification 883,527 is referred to.
