Abstract

522,596. Pipe couplings; valves. AVERY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and FISHER, R. J. Dec. 10, 1938, No. 36101. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a pipe coupling having two coupling parts each containing a valve adapted on coupling to be opened by the seat of the other valve one of the valve members 28 is annular and engages a central fixed seat 26, lies outside a stem 25 forming the fluid passage through the coupling, and has its rear face exposed at all times to the fluid pressure in the coupling. The other valve 17 engages a conical seat 12 secured in the coupling part 10. The valve 28 is guided in the coupling part 22 and on the ported stem 25, and is stepped internally to provide a space 33. The valve is a loose fit on the stem so that the space 33 communicates with the fluid passage. A rectangular-section packing ring 36 is held between radially outwardly divergent faces on the coupling member and on a loose ring 37 which is engaged by a shoulder 46 of the valve. In a modification, a circular-section packing ring 52, Fig. 4, engages a shoulder on the valve 47 and a recess 53 in the coupling member. A washer 55 is pressed against the ring by the valve spring. The space 57 is connected to the passage 48 by ports 59.
