Abstract

879,147. Valves. KOSANGAS A.S. April 9, 1958, No. 11215/58. Class 135. A two-stage reduction valve has a highpressure unit comprising a valve member 14, spring-urged towards a seat assembly 12, actuated by outlet pressure in a chamber 35 acting through a port 36 on the lower face of a spring-loaded diaphragm 40 fitted with a central stem 44 for abutting the valve spindle 18, and a low-pressure unit connected in series with the chamber 35 and comprising a reciprocable valve member 68 actuated by outlet pressure acting through a passage 72 on the lower face of a spring-loaded diaphragm 76 which is connected to the valve member by a bellcrank 98, the passage 72 being positioned relative to the valve member so that the action of the outlet pressure on the diaphragm is modified by the Venturi effect of the restriction constituted by the valve member thus making the operation of the unit independent of the rate of gas consumption. The valve housing 20 is connected to a gas bottle neck 10 by a spring- loaded sleeve 30 which retains a number of balls 24 in engagement with an annular groove 28 in the neck. A hand lever 58 can be used to retract the member 44 to close the valve, and in the open position allows limited free movement of the member 44. Both diaphragms 40, 76 may be lifted from their respective abutments 46, 84, against which they are pressed by springs 52, 96, to relieve excessive pressure.
