723,375. Fluid-actuated valves. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd. July 27, 1953 [July 26, 1952], No. 18949/52. Class 135. A relief valve comprises a housing having a liquid inlet 15 and outlet 25, an annular seat member 20 sealingly slidable in the housing and having its seat on the outlet side, a valve 22 coaxially aligned with the seat and loaded by the spring 28 through the guided stem 30, 31, 32, and a guide member 23 in which the valve moves in close alignment and which has lateral clearance in the housing and limited axial movement with the seat member to and from a housing abutment 26. The guide is laterally located by the seated valve. Inlet pressure below blow-off pressure acts across the seat and valve member and moves them together upwardly to clamp the guide member against the abutment so that the valve then opens and closes in guided alignment with the seat inside the clamped guide member. A piston 35 lightly loaded against the valve by a spring 38 is acted upon by inlet pressure at both ends via openings 19, 39 and prevents valve chatter. The liquid escapes via castellations on the lower face of the guide member.
