Abstract

701,734. Pipe &c, couplings. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. July 4, 1952 [May 24, 1952], No. 16909/52. Class 99 (1). In a coupling comprising separable body parts 1, 2 having passageways 3, 27 and wherein the part 2 has a projection 19 insertable in a socket 24 of a gate-valve 7 slidable in a guideway 8 of the part 1 so that the passageways 3, 27 are placed in or out of communication, the end of the passageway 3 is surrounded by a ring 5 in fluid sealing engagement with the valve 7, and a sealing. ring 22 is provided to maintain a fluid seal between the socket and projection when the parts 1, 2 are engaged. There may be secured to the part 1 a cover plate 13 provided with a key-hole slot 15 through the enlarged portion 16 of which is passed a flange 23 of the projection 19, the flange, as the valve is slid transversely of the part 1, engaging under the sides 17 of the slot to retain the parts 1, 2 against axial separation. The valve when in the closed position as shown may abut stops 11, and the parts 1, 2 may have screw-threaded bosses 28, 29 or be otherwise formed for the connection of pressure-fluid conduits. In a modification, the valve has side flanges slidable in grooves provided in one of the coupling parts, a second pair of adjacent grooves being provided for the reception of the flange 23.
