Abstract

728,252. Pipe couplings. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. Jan. 12, 1953 [Oct. 8, 1952], No. 919/53. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] A valved coupling comprises two body parts each separately associated with a valve plate and sealing means, the latter made of, e.g., rubber, comprising a ring portion and an elongated enclosed loop extension so that in all positions of a valve plate sealing takes place between the valve plate and the body part. As shown in Figs. 2 and 6, body parts 14, 12, are separately associated with valve plates 16, 20, flanges 28 on the plate 16 sliding into grooves in the part 14 whilst flanges 26 in the plate 20 slide into guideways 54 in the part 12. Cutaways 62 in the flanges 26 are arranged to coincide with slots 60 in the disengaged position of the part 12. The parts 14, 12 are brought together by the insertion of lugs 41 formed on the part 14 into the slots 60 and cutaways 62, a pin 46 on the plate 16 engaging a hole 74 in the plate 20 to align holes 44, 70 through the plates. Full connection of the coupling is then made by sliding the now connected plates 16, 20, so that the plate 20 slides into grooves 42 in the part 14 to align the holes 44, 70 with passages 40, 72 in the parts 14, 12 respectively so that fluid may flow through the coupled pipe. The sealing means comprises a gasket 78, having a ring portion 80, Fig. 7, and an integrally extending closed loop portion 82, each body part being formed with a complementary-shaped groove to receive a gasket 78. Sealing between the plates 16, 20 is provided by a rubber ring 9 mounted in a groove in the plate 20.
