[Class 99 (ii)] A coupling for connecting fluid conduits includes a pair of ported coupling-boxes and a valve member comprising interfitting apertured plates which are rotated to cover and uncover the ports and which serve to lock the boxes together when the valve member is in the open position. A coupling adapted to interconnect five conduits 13 with the same number of axially aligned conduits 16, comprises boxes 11, 12 each provided with bosses 21 which are bored and tapped to receive the conduits. The boxes have integral segmental retaining fingers 24, 24a respectively which when the coupling is assembled, enclose a cylindrical chamber 25, Fig. 2, containing a valve member 26..The latter comprises two plates 27, 28 locked against relative rotary movement by the engagement of bored bosses 31 in the lower plate with holes 33 in'the upper and by the engagement of a lug with a recess 42. When the valve is in the Fig. 2 position, the holes 32 provide fluid passages between the aligned conduits. The plates have segmental peripheral flanges 29, 30 respectively, arranged to interfit so that when the plates are assembled they substantially fill the chamber 25. The valve assembly may be turned by means of a knob 44 mounted on the lower plate and provided with pins 49 engaging, holes in the lower plate and passing through slots in the box 11. The valve is located in the "flow" position by a spring-pressed plunger 58 engaging a hole in the upper valve plate and in this position flanges 29, 30 coact with the retaining fingers of the boxes to hold the parts together. By rotation of the plate 27 through 30‹ from the flow position this plate closes the ports 19 in the box 11 and spring-pressed'sealing rings 37 engage the plate to prevent leakage from the chambers 35. Similarly the plate 28. closes the ports 20 which are sealed off by rings 3.8. In this position the segmental flanges are so disposed in relation to the retaining fingers 24, 24a, that the coupling boxes may be separated, each with its valve plate in sealing position, Fig. 5.
