Abstract

784,860. Pipe couplings. EXTRACTOR, Ltd. June 3, 1955 [May 12, 1954], No. 13957/54. Class 99(1). In a spigot and socket pipe coupling having at least one spring-loaded valve 8 automatically opened on connection of the coupling, the spigot 5 has an eccentric leading end 6 of reduced diameter to enable it to pass a locking pin 2, located in the side of the socket 3, which is brought into locking relationship with a groove 7 in the part 6 by relative angular movement of the spigot and socket. The valve 8, which is faced with rubber is opened by a fixed valve 13 in the part 5, the movable seat 14 of which is forced back by the flange 12 when the coupling is connected. In highpressure systems the groove 7 is provided with a sloping side to exert a camming action on the pin 2 during relative rotation of the spigot and socket, thereby assisting opening of the valves 8, 14.
