Abstract

1324981 Hook fastenings BRITISH ROPES Ltd 7 Aug 1970 [8 May 1969] 23500/69 Heading E2A [Also in Division F2] A thrust ring is screwed along threads 24 to slide a collar 3 axially on a body 4 and thus tighten arms 1, 8 against a blanking plate 19 or an annular flange of a pipe (not shown), &c. The collar 3 and thrust ring are normally connected loosely, for axial movement together, by a hook 23 which permits relative rotation. Means 29 are provided to secure the two firmly together when the connection has been made and this will lock the coupling as a projection 20 on the body restrains the collar from rotation. The securing means 29 comprises a pin (32), Fig. 14 (not shown), slidably mounted in a bore (31) of a housing (30) welded to the collar 3, and provided at its ends with a lever 10 and a friction pad (33): the lever 10 is rotated to cause axial movement of the lever, pin (32) and pad (33) due to a camming -action between the lever and housing (30) and the pad grips a flange 22 of the thrust ring. The arm 8 is pivoted on the collar 3 by a bolt 12 and is held in its operative position by the flange 22 on the thrust ring, the flange having a gap (not shown) through which a shoulder 28 on the arm may pass when the arm is required to pivot on connection or disconnection of the coupling. The thrust ring may be formed with a socketed projection into which a lever may be inserted to facilitate rotation of the ring.
