688,010. Pipe couplings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 20, 1951 [June 22, 1950], No. 14636/51. Class 99 (i). In a quick-release spigot-and-socket coupling of the kind in which a spring ring 18 is contracted into a groove 13 in the spigot by the conical surface 15 of a spring-urged sleeve 14, the spring 19 is located between a washer 17 retained by a rolled flange 16 of the sleeve and an external flange 8 on the socket 5 near its end, the flange 8 engaging the surface 15 to retain the sleeve when the coupling is released. The flange 8 and a shoulder 10 for limiting the insertion of the spigot are formed on the socket member 5 by folding over the ends of a plain sheet metal tube.
