Abstract

656,376. Pipe joints. SOMMA, R. Jan. 10, 1949, No. 665. [Class 99(i)] '[Also in Group XXII] A tube connector in which the end of a tube 13 is flared during coupling comprises a screw-threaded spigot 10 having an abutment 17 and a bore 20 surrounded by a flare-gripping seat 19, a socket member 11 having a tube-receiving passage 24 surrounded by a deflecting surface 26 which is inclined in the same direction as the seat 19, and a band 12 which fits on the tube 13 and has an inwardly bendable gripping flange 28, adapted to be forced into the pipe 13 by the surface 26 and an integral projection 29 which engages the abutment 17 prior to the co-operation of its seat 19, the projection 29 being displaced by the abutment only after the flange 28 grips the tube. The tube is first placed in the member 11 and the band 12 positioned whereupon on engaging the parts 10, 11 the flange grips the tube and the projection 29 yields to allow the tube to ride up the seat 19. The spigot 10 may be provided with a threaded stem 15 or may comprise a double-ended fitting for two tubes.
