Abstract
600,142. Couplings for flexible tubing. GEE, W. L. Sept. 28, 1945, Nos. 25206/45 and 8589/46. [Class 99 (i)] Means for coupling flexible metallic tubing, or tubing of the armoured hose type, to a pipe 10 or other tubular fitting consists of a coupling sleeve 13 attached to the pipe 10, the end of the sleeve being formed as a single turn or part of a turn of a screw thread of pitch and dimensions the same as those of the turns of the corrugations in the tubing to be coupled ; the sleeve, and the part of the pipe 10 projecting into it, form an annular recess 14 for receiving the end of the tubing. For flexible metal tubing 11, Figs. 1, 3, the end of the sleeve has its edge turned down as at 13a so as to form a turn of a thread which can engage the grooves 11a in the tube. In the case of an armoured hose, a groove is formed in the sleeve. The sleeve is attached to the pipe 10 by means of the collar 12, riveted or otherwise attached, to both parts. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement with the end of the sleeve expanded and a short length of tube 16 provided to form the annular recess 14, packing 15 being located in the recess. Another modification is shown in Fig. 5, an additional sleeve 17 being clamped on the pipe 10, while the coupling sleeve 13 engages sleeve 17 in such a way as to be relatively rotatable thereto.
