Abstract

839,399. Pipe joints. GRESSEL A. G., E. June 20, 1957 [June 23, 1956; April 10, 1957], No. 19491/57. Class 99(1). A sleeve-like coupling element 4 having at one end an internal screw-thread and screwed on to an externally screw-threaded coupling element 3 is provided with a conical inner portion 6 and a cylindrical portion adapted to the external diameter of the pipe, and a packing sleeve 8, which encircles the end of the pipe, has a conical outer surface 10 co-operating with the surface 6. The surface 10 has an angle of inclination smaller than that of the portion 6, and the sleeve 8 has a plane end face 14 and an inwardly projecting, abutment shoulder 15. As shown, the ends 11, 12 of the sleeves 7, 8 where two pipes 1, 2 are connected, are forced radially inwardly to cause slight constrictions 13 in the walls of the pipes to create gas and liquid-tight seals, the end faces 14 of the sleeves being forced into abutment. The pipes may be of copper, iron, light alloy or synthetic plastic.
