Abstract

812,506. Pipe couplings. THORNHILLCRAVER CO. Inc. March 22, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 9452/57. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXV] In a screw-threaded connection comprising a male member 11 provided with a conical, external screwthread and a coupling member 10 having a shorter, conical, internal, screw-thread of the same cone angle and terminating at the smaller tapered end thereof at a predetermined transverse plane by an internal recess 13 in the member so that interengagement of the screw-threads constitutes the only limitation on the extent of make-up of the connection, the screw-thread of the coupling member being engaged over the entire length thereof by the screw-thread of the member 11 when the connection is fully made up, the screw-threads have such dimensions that when the connection is made hand-tight the screw-thread of the member 11 extends substantially up to the said transverse plane. The annular recess 13, as shown, is dimensioned to receive without contact with the wall of the recess or with each other the ends of the pipes 11, 12 when the latter are fully made up in the coupling member.
