Abstract

774,528. Hose couplings. OIL FEED ENGINEERING CO.. Ltd., and WEST, E. B. June 3, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6865/54. Class 99(1) An insert 1 and a sleeve 2 are screwthreaded so that one can be drawn on to the other and define between them an annulus of constant width to receive the end of a hose 7, the annulus tapering from the hose-receiving end thereof and increasing in diameter. As shown, the bore 5 of the sleeve is tapered, provided with projections 9 in the form of a helix and is screwed on to the end of the hose 7 the outer layer of which is removed to expose the hose reinforcement 8; the end wall 3 of the sleeve has a screw-threaded opening for reception of the shank 4 of the.insert 1, the taper of the insert reducing the screw-thread thereof so that the end of the shank is plain. A hexagonal part 17 is formed on the sleeve and the open end of the sleeve is counterbored at 11 to provide a skirt portion which overlies the outer layer of the hose. The insert 1 also has a hexagonal part 16 and is formed with a seating 12, a wire 13 passed through' an opening 14 in a nut 12<SP>1</SP> and under a flange 15 retaining the nut on,the insert. When the insert has been screwed into the sleeve the end of the hose is received in an annular pocket 10 in the sleeve, the reinforcement being gripped by the projections 9.
